The Truth About Work Life Balance and Entrepreneurship

There is so much information being thrown around regarding work life balance. Particularly if you are in a professional setting. If you are an entrepreneur you might feel like you have your own idea of work life balance, but do you really? Let’s explore the reality of it all and see what is happening on the other side.



Work life balance might be the buzz word of late. It's what so many entrepreneurs strive for. They want to have a business that allows them time with family and time for themselves. The problem is even if you are an entrepreneur you might feel like you have your own idea of work life balance, but do you really? Let’s explore the reality of it all and see what is happening on the other side.


Some statistics say that 83% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. What does this really mean? In a nutshell it means that most people are living their lives from one financial crisis to another. There's no money in their accounts and they’re spending more than they have coming in. What does this have to do with work life balance? Everything!


Most people are working too much and trying to play catch up with their bills all the time, not just entrepreneurs who want to start a business. So many people think if they could only get out of debt they could relax and enjoy life. They believe that work life balance is something only the rich can attain, when in truth having more money doesn't get rid of stress; it actually makes it worse!


Reality vs. Expectation

As an #entrepreneur myself, I understand the importance of finding a healthy balance between your personal life, your family and your business. But in reality, that’s easier said than done especially when you are just starting out and trying to make a name for yourself or build something from the ground up.


I get it, you want to make your mark in the world and leave a legacy behind but at what cost? Do you have to sacrifice your health, relationships and mental well being along the way?


You might be reading this article wondering why does this matter? Why does this even concern me? What does it have to do with me? I’m not an entrepreneur so I don’t need to worry about this.


The truth is everyone needs work life balance regardless of profession or job title. It’s important for everyone to figure this out because if you don’t then one day you will wake up realizing how much time has passed by without you actually enjoying or enjoying some of the most important moments in life.


I am constantly battling the work life balance. Not only because of my own ventures but because I often find myself trying to help other entrepreneurs figure out what they need to do to scale their business while managing the craziness that is entrepreneurship.


One of my most valuable skills as an entrepreneur is my ability to be intuitive and empathetic. This means that I have an incredibly hard time pushing past my own boundaries, so if I’m helping someone else with their issues, I have to be sure that mine are in check as well.


I have some friends who work a 9-5 and they often joke about how busy they are because they have tons to do at work, but then when they get home, it’s all over and done with for the day. They can leave it at work and not bring it home with them.


That idea is almost impossible for me! My brain never stops working on my business and my clients’ businesses. I analyze other people’s businesses, even if it’s just a thought experiment in my head. I think about what would work best for them and why, so that when I talk to them about it later on, I can share all of my thoughts on their


A balanced life is the goal, but maintaining an individualized perspective and goal of what that looks like for you is most important.
